"In addition to facilitating our students to offer regular support in schools, Dr Stidder has organised special sporting events for pupils with learning difficulties, gifted and talented pupils, and he has encouraged young female athletes to aim higher. Speaking at the university's graduation ceremony at the Brighton Dome on 24 July, she said: "Dr Stidder has organised opportunities for school children to benefit from both the facilities at the university and from the talent and training of its PE students.
"His work has impacted on thousands of young people over the years – opening their eyes to new experiences and building their confidence.
"One football club leader said: 'My organisation would never have made the progress we have in the community without Dr Stidder's help, support, encouragement and heart'."
Dr Stidder said: "It's fantastic recognition and I'm honoured but I don't do what I do for awards – I do it for the students and the children of the local community."
