Working here

This is an exciting time to join the University of Brighton as we reimagine what a university can be and restate our vital contribution to society. Our strategy, Distinctively Brighton 2035, sets out a bold vision and clear direction towards a university that is both radically transformed and radically relevant.

As an employer, we champion mental health, wellbeing, inclusivity, diversity and equity as the foundations of our confident future. We’re committed to empowering our staff through professional development, enabling them to support the university’s ambitious strategic goals and fulfil our mission: to address key societal challenges and serve the needs of our students, staff, communities and the wider world. What we do matters.

We offer a wide range of jobs in both academic and support roles, with benefits and opportunities. Read more about:

Trade unions

The university recognises the following trade unions:

  • University and College Union (UCU)
  • UNISON.
Being recognised really makes me feel like I’m part of the team. Championing equity and inclusion sometimes involves challenging existing practices – it can take courage. So having that courage celebrated makes me feel so included and supported by my colleagues and the university.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

We champion and nurture inclusivity, diversity and equality, recognising the value it has to the future of our staff, students, partners and community.

Find out more on the Equalities Act here, download our equality, diversity and inclusion policy (pdf), and if you have any questions please email equality@brighton.ac.uk.

Disability Confident

The university is a Disability Confident employer. This government scheme supports equality and diversity in our staff recruitment practices and is part of our on-going commitment to employing people with disabilities and health conditions, and ensuring every possible opportunity to progress at the university.

What do we mean by disability?

Under the Equality Act 2010, disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

We offer our assurance that, should applicants with disabilities meet the minimum criteria for a post, they will be shortlisted for the post and given an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at interview.
