Chloe Braybrook, a Physical Education BA(Hons) student, works with Chelsea Children's Camp, run from the university's School of Sport and Service Management in Eastbourne.
The non-profit group was set up by university students and staff in 1961 and runs annual residential trip for young people.
It works closely with social services and child right's and education welfare departments and is partnered with the welfare organisation named Right Resolution which provides care workers to support the young people and students.
Chloe, pictured centre, kneeling, with university students and a young helper from this year's project, said: "My involvement with the camp started in 2011 and, three years on, I am still in great awe of the project."
Chloe, who has run a half marathon to raise money for the camp, said: "This is definitely a career pathway I would consider continuing on after gaining such an empowering experience."
Chloe is also part of the university's Football 4 Peace project, an activity-based community relations and reconciliation initiative, and she recently travelled to Paris to talk at a UNESCO workshop on developing resources for sport and physical education.
Graham Spacey, visiting lecturer in the school and project officer, said: "Chloe has led a team of ten volunteer students for Chelsea Children's Camp and has begun training a new cohort of students to take over once she graduates at the end of this year.
"Using the Football 4 Peace methodology and acting as positive young role models, the volunteer students actively engage with young people and create an constructive and fun atmosphere where new skills can be learnt, positive qualities reinforced and negative behaviours challenged appropriately."
