The super giant slalom downhill speed event kept the pairs' families and friends waiting until the last competitor finished, confirming first place for Kelly and Charlotte.
Professor Jonathan Doust, Head of the University of Brighton's School of Sport and Service Management, said: "We are all thrilled and delighted for Charlotte and, of course, for Kelly – the gold winning performance was outstanding.
"Many of us watched the race and were biting our nails before it was certain they had won.

Charlotte, a University of Brighton Sports Scholarship student, put on hold her Sport and Exercise Science BSc(Hons) degree studies to concentrate on training with Kelly for the Sochi Paralympics.
Professor Doust said: "This is great news and we may yet see more medals from the pair later but, for the moment, we are savouring Britain's first ever Winter Paralympic gold – what a fantastic performance.
"This adds to the university's proud record of students reaching the Olympics, stretching back to the Helsinki Games of 1952."
