The second-year Geology BSc(Hons) student (from Bridgnorth, Shropshire) was one of seven university students from around the country to receive an Institute of Quarrying National Students Award.
The geologists-of-the-future were nominated by their universities for their “continuous hard work and passion towards their course, as well as demonstrating strong potential for a successful career in the mineral extractives industry”.
Esme, 20, said: “I enjoy the course, especially the field trips. They are a great chance to apply theory to a practical situation. Brighton is a lot of fun and the university is a good learning environment.”
Esme award came with two years free student membership of the IQ.
James Thorne, IQ’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “The benefits of IQ membership are second to none. For these young geologists, they can take advantage of invitations to networking events, receive professional help with career development through the industry’s monthly magazine Quarry Management and Agg-Net.com, and attend educational webinars with industry experts.”
