The university regularly receives enquiries from parents and other third parties regarding students or staff, however in most cases the Data Protection Act strictly prevents us from disclosing information.
There are however some circumstances where disclosure would be allowed.
If you are from a criminal investigation agency – please contact us on the below email address and attach an appropriately authorised DPA.
If you have consent from the student or staff member to information being shared, or you have legal authority to request data on others, please complete this form to request data (.docx), this helps us to ensure that the individual is aware of the data share and/or has consented to the data share and/or that another legal authority is in place to allow for the data share.
There is no charge for this however if your request is unfounded or excessive or repeats previous requests then there may be an administrative charge – you will be informed of this as soon as we are able to confirm the nature of your request.
Please send completed forms and other documentation to dataprotection@brighton.ac.uk.
Employers and agencies:
If you are an employer or recruitment agency requiring verification of study for a former student, you should request this via Higher Education Degree Datacheck (HEDD). This is an online verification service which verifies the University of Brighton awards. The employer or agency will need to register to use this service, and the former student will need to have completed a consent form which the employer or agency will have to upload in order to give us permission to release confirmation of your qualifications. You can find more information on our helping you pages.
