Alumni and Friends Fund
Last year, the Access to Learning Fund (ALF) which provided statutory hardship funding for UK students was removed. Consequently, we are raising money to address the shortfall to ensure our students still receive much-needed support.
Our Alumni and Friends Fund provides students with access to support through hardship funds, which are a vital lifeline for some students facing an unexpected financial crisis; scholarships, grants and prizes that make university more accessible and recognise outstanding achievement.
As a valued member of our alumni community, your support is inestimable. Your donation can make a huge difference: whether that is by helping a student from a deprived background deciding to make the leap, or a mature student wishing to change their life, and for many others who encounter financial difficulties.
Global Opportunities Fund
Thanks to your generosity, we began the new academic year by welcoming our first two Global Opportunities scholars to the university. Our new scholars from Palestine and Syria experienced harrowing circumstances before seeking refuge in the UK and your support has thrown them a lifeline for rebuilding their futures. We cannot thank you enough.
We hope to provide up to six scholarships each year to support individuals facing the most difficult of circumstances: people who have had to flee their country because of conflict or who have faced extreme environmental changes leaving them with no home or community.
Your donations mean we can provide each scholar with up to 15 months of educational support at postgraduate level, as well as three months of employability support, enabling a successful transition from the most difficult of circumstances to employment through education.
With our alumni community’s support, education can make a difference. Your donation will help to provide a student from one of the most marginalised groups in society with the chance to build a more secure future for themselves and their community.
