About this bursary
This bursary is for full-time undergraduate students from lower-income families resident in England who started in September 2017. To be eligible, you must be studying an undergraduate course that leads to qualified teacher status (QTS) or qualifications in architecture or pharmacy.
The bursary is worth £1,000 a year and is paid in the final year of your course.

You do not need to repay a University of Brighton bursary.
Depending on your circumstances, you could also be eligible to receive further bursaries and financial support from the University of Brighton.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible to apply for this bursary you must:
- be entering higher education for the first time in September 2017
- be an undergraduate student in the final year of a four- or five-year course leading to qualified teacher status (QTS) or qualifications in architecture or pharmacy
- be normally resident in England and have been assessed as eligible to receive full funding from Student Finance England
- have been eligible to receive the University of Brighton bursary in your first year of study and
- have a household income up to and including £25,000 a year.
If you already have a university degree or other higher education qualification at the same or a higher level, your eligibility for University of Brighton bursaries may be affected.
Your eligibility for this bursary will be re-assessed each academic year.
How to apply
You do not need to make a separate application to be considered for this bursary. We use the information you have provided to UCAS and Student Finance England to assess your eligibility.
Please make sure you:
- Apply for your student loans and maintenance grant as soon as possible.
- Apply for means-tested support and agree to Student Finance England sharing the information you (or your parent or guardian) provide about household income. We need this information to assess your eligibility and we only see it if permission has been given. If you are not sure whether you have given this permission, contact Student Finance England to confirm.
We will email you in the autumn to confirm whether you will receive this bursary for the academic year.
Extra funding if you need it
Once you are enrolled at the university you can apply for extra financial help if you need it. You could be eligible for funds through the Student Support Fund.
