Every year, the Brighton and Sussex University Hospital (BSUH) Pathology Department recruits placement students from the University of Brighton’s accredited Biomedical programme.
Lindsay Dixon, Chief Biomedical Scientist at BSUH explains that only University of Brighton students are hired in the pathology department due to the Biomedical Science degrees being accredited by Health and Care Professions Council.
In order for students from other universities to apply for training with the NHS as a biomedical scientist, they would need to get their degree accredited from the professional body, which could mean additional modules at their own expense.
Four students from the University of Brighton were hired during July 2016, including Kayleigh Knopp and Joshua Travers who assist with day-to-day lab work.
