Professor Ostler will be Chair-elect for the year starting 8 July and then Chair for the following two years.
The Deputy Head (Quality Assurance) of the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences and member of the university’s Chemistry Research and Enterprise Group, was elected by Heads of Chemistry Departments from across the UK. The 70 strong membership organisation represents the interests of departments engaged in chemical education, scholarship and research in UK universities.
Professor Ostler said: “I’m extremely pleased to have been elected to this prestigious position. I think this is, in part, in recognition of the hard work and dedication shown by my colleagues in developing excellent teaching and research in Chemistry at Brighton.”
With 54,000 members around the world, the 175-year-old Royal Society of Chemistry is dedicated to the "the general advancement of chemical science", publishes new research and brings people together to “spark new ideas and new partnerships”. It also supports teachers to inspire future generations of scientists and acts as a “catalyst for the chemistry that enriches” the world.
