A University of Brighton staff member has launched a Facebook group to share free online resources for educating and entertaining – and the page has taken off like a rocket.
The group was set up just three weeks ago and already has more than 1,600 members and is proving “very active”, according to Tracey Beck, who came up with the idea.
The group is called ‘Cardboard Spaceships’ to encourage children and carers to use what they have to hand to “help you travel as far as you can”.
Tracey, the university’s Quality and Standards Adviser, is entertaining and educating two children, aged 8 and 12, whilst working from home.
She said: “Both are active, engaged and want to learn - when I realised that it was likely that schools would close I knew that I would be kept on my toes keeping them occupied.
“I started looking for interesting ideas online and found a few which I shared with my friends. I soon realised that setting up a Facebook group would allow parents to come together, share ideas and support each other.
“My partner suggested the name, and I thought it was a great way to express how we can be resourceful with what we have to help our children travel as far as they can in the current situation.”
