The grant from Health Education Kent Surrey and Sussex will allow the medical school's anatomy team to work with partners in the NHS to develop and deliver high-quality, innovative surgical training, which has been largely restricted since COVID-19 began last year.
Professor Claire Smith said: “COVID-19 has had a massive impact on practical training for surgical staff, with many providers having to close or restrict activities during the pandemic. However, the need for training for surgical staff remains as great as ever. This grant will enable us to deliver vital surgical training through live streaming, virtual reality (VR) and 360 cameras, and to create a suite of surgical training resources available to surgeons around the world.”
