Local businesses given ‘Help to Grow’ at University of Brighton

Delivered and facilitated by subject experts from the University of Brighton’s School of Business and Law, the Help to Grow management course supports senior managers of small and medium-sized businesses to boost their business performance, resilience, and long-term growth.

The bespoke 12-week programme, which includes mentoring, will help leaders build their capabilities in areas such as strategy and innovation, internationalisation, organisational design and implementing growth plans.

The programme is designed for businesses from any sector and has the benefit of being heavily subsidised, with 90% of the cost funded by the government.

The first group of local leaders will start the course in April at Elm House, the University of Brighton’s landmark new home for its School of Business and Law on its Moulsecoomb campus. Future cohorts are planned for Eastbourne and Crawley, with other locations in Sussex under consideration.

Dr Ioannis Pantelidis, Principal Lecturer at the University of Brighton’s School of Business and Law will lead the team delivering the Help to Grow programme locally. He said: “Small and medium sized business are the real driving force of our region’s economy, providing jobs, opportunity and economic growth for people in Brighton and across the south-east.

“We’re delighted to be delivering the Help to Grow management programme, working with senior leaders to help them grow their businesses sustainably. It’s just one of the ways that the University of Brighton works in partnership in the city and across the region to share the expertise of our academics.

“Together, we’re supporting innovation, expanding skills and boosting productivity – all of which means a healthy, growing and sustainable economy.”

The Help to Grow management course is delivered by leading business schools across the UK who have been awarded the Small Business Charter by the Chartered Association of Business Schools.

The University of Brighton’s School of Business and Law gained accreditation in December 2021 for its influential support of local enterprises, SMEs and start-ups, along with its commitment to local growth and regeneration.

The University of Brighton is placed in the top 10% for universities for public and community engagement, and in the top 20% for skills, enterprise, and entrepreneurship according to Research England.
