The prestigious European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award recognises the continued and innovative work by the university to support the personal, professional and career development of its researchers. Administered by Vitae, the award was retained following the university’s twelve-year review.
The rigorous independent assessment confirmed that the University of Brighton has committed to engaging with and implementing the principles of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and improving research culture and environment.
The Concordat is an agreement between four main stakeholders (institutions, managers, researchers and funders) to support the career development and improve employment opportunities of researchers in the UK. This is set out under the three principles of environment and culture, employment, and professional and career development. Reviews provide opportunities to reflect on practice and support and identify specific actions to enhance experience and career progression.
Professor Rusi Jaspal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange), said,
“We are delighted to have retained the HR Excellence in Research Award and to be recognised by the European Commission.
The Research and Knowledge Exchange team at the University of Brighton has provided our research community with career development opportunities, guidance and training in accordance with the Concordat since 2012. I am grateful to them and the Concordat Implementation Steering Group, who prepared our submission, as well as the entire research and knowledge exchange community at the university for making this recognition possible.
Our planned actions aim to build on our strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and ensure that colleagues are able to realise their potential.”
